What is your role at BoatyardX and what does a typical day look like for you?
I am the Head of Technology Services at BoatyardX which involves running the services side of our business. Working across a dedicated & talented team of platform engineers in both Colombia and Romania, we provide support to clients on the infrastructure that hosts their products and applications. My typical day is quite varied – and ranges from checking in with the respective teams on current projects, to dealing with new proposals and collaborating with colleagues in ensuing services align with the companies’ objectives. From time to time, I also take on consulting projects to help organisations with the adoption of new technologies or to help them in understanding their current technology estate. All in all – I’m kept quite busy !!
What challenges have you faced in your role and how have you overcome them?
In a global business, working across different geographies and with different teams has meant I’ve had to be super organised with my time, so that I can create space to collaborate/support on our projects. At times this can mean an extended day across South American and European time zones. I have found over the past 2 years that being an effective global leader requires taking time to build relationships with colleagues and a willingness to listen and understand different perspectives. Staying connected through technology and embracing flexibility are crucial aspects. However, in today’s constantly connected world, it is essential to acknowledge and respect the working hours of colleagues to maximize our core working hours together.
What have been your proudest achievements while working at BoatyardX?
I am proud of our team here in BoatyardX and proud of what we have achieved so far. As a growing company, we have had to be flexible in adapting to new challenges, new technologies and changing markets. Many of our team have stretched outside of their core capabilities to help us explore new avenues for growth and are continually challenging us to improve our services. Working with a team that is motivated in this way is particularly rewarding and I look forward to working with the team in our continued growth!
