Introducing Adelina Burnete, Backend Engineer at BoatyardX, whose role extends beyond writing efficient code, by proposing technical solutions that meet the business needs, while engaging and collaborating with customers and developers worldwide. Adelina's proudest moments stem from witnessing and participating in the evolution of a project from an initial concept to a fully functional product successfully released into production.

What is your role at BoatyardX and what does a typical day look like for you?

As a backend engineer at BoatyardX, my role involves developing and maintaining the server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. A typical workday includes coding, troubleshooting, and collaborating with other developers and stakeholders through meetings and brainstorming sessions.

Balancing work and life is crucial for me. I start my day with a productive morning routine, and after work, I engage in activities like dance lessons, gym sessions, or socializing with friends to unwind. Working from both home and the office allows me the flexibility to manage my professional and personal life effectively, and Thursdays are always a highlight with board games or beers with colleagues.

What challenges have you faced in your role and how have you overcome them?

Engineers usually encounter various challenges inherent to their role: levels of complexity, technology stack updates, finding the optimum solution with maintainability and scalability in mind and so on.

However, one of the most common challenges is managing multiple tasks and sometimes even multiple projects simultaneously. This requires adept multitasking skills and the ability to swiftly transition between different contexts and priorities.

To overcome these challenges, I’ve implemented a proactive approach to time management. By prioritizing tasks and utilizing various time management techniques, I ensure that I can effectively handle the demands of multiple projects without sacrificing quality or efficiency. Additionally, maintaining a positive attitude towards these challenges has been instrumental in fostering adaptability and resilience in the face of shifting priorities. This combination of proactive planning and a positive mindset enables me to navigate through the complexities of my role as a backend engineer with confidence and success.

What have been your proudest achievements while working at BoatyardX?

I’m particularly proud of several achievements during my time at BoatyardX. One of my significant accomplishments was successfully learning, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure for one of our projects for about a year, even without a dedicated DevOps team. Another proud moment was winning a project through a code contest and interview for a potential client. Additionally, I had the opportunity to share my knowledge and success stories and wrote articles for our company website. Furthermore, I have consistently provided innovative solutions for our community, assisted colleagues, and offered Java support whenever needed. Each of these accomplishments reflects my commitment to growth, teamwork, and contributing to the success of BoatyardX.
